W3C Games CG September 2022: Open Web Games Directory

A few days ago, on Tuesday September 6th, the W3C Games Community Group gathered to talk about the Open Web Games Directory we’ve discussed in the past during some of the previous meetups and TPAC sessions.

Enclave Games - W3C Games September 2022: Open Web Games Directory

The goal was to explore the discoverability topic, and discuss the possibility of building an Open Web Games Directory. Tom Greenaway (Google) and Noël Meudec (Meta) were leading the session, while Koen Bollen (Poki) and me added our points of view, followed by François Daoust and Rachel Yager (both W3C).

We had a search engine side (Google), games platforms (Facebook Instant Games and Poki), and a game developer (Enclave Games) - I’m quite happy with the outcome as the whole meetup was packed with fruitful discussions.

We’re considering kickstarting the project with GitHub (Pages, compared to hosting ourselves) - I’d love to have Lee Reilly next time we discuss this, especially since he made the games on GitHub list.

Let me know if any of you would like to be involved somehow - we have clear next steps for this and want to proceed as soon as possible, but can totally welcome more participants!
